One time at band camp....

So the PreppyBF came yesterday to visit me! We just ate at the dining hall and watched a movie with my roommate last year/best friend. It was a cozy evening, we didn't do anything special. Sometimes it's nights like that where you just love him even more for driving an hour up here to do nothing!

So since I'm gushing about the boyfriend, I thought I'd share with you our story. It's a long one, five years in the making so I'll give you a spark notes version!

August 2003-
The week before school would start, the marching band would have "band camp." Yeah get the laughs out now. I've heard it all, especially since I played flute at the time. Soooo funnnnnyyy... Anyway, we had a mutual friend that somehow introduced us. We actually don't remember meeting but somehow we started talking a lot, going out to lunch during our hour lunch break at camp.

(Sidenote: I went to prom the year before, which wasn't common as a freshman and the drum major at the time was friends with the guys I went with. She didn't go so I brought my album of pictures to show her. PreppyBF wandered over and heard me tell her "I'm determined to go to prom all four years!" She saw PreppyBF was next to us (he was trying to check out the pics.. haha) and she said, "Go with PreppyBF!!") We all kinda rolled our eyes, while I secretly said yesss pleeease!)

So school started and we only saw each other on Mondays and Wednesday nights (band practice.) I was creepy and im-ed him a lot but he didn't seem completely interested. I then decided to lay low for a while and see what happened. When I couldn't take it anymore, I texted him saying "I don't know if you've figured this out yet but I like you and think we'd be a cute couple" (something along those lines.) He replied, "I don't think I want a relationship my senior year, but maybe we could be friends with benefits?? (typical guy) I said I guess but never intended on that happening.
The next weekend I asked him if he wanted to go to the movies, saying that a couple of our band friends would meet us there. The sly fox that I am, I knew no one else would be coming. I thought it'd give us time to spend with just us, and he'd cave in to my wonderful charm soon enough. I wasn't going to give up on this hot trombone player without a fight.

October 2003-
So things kinda mellowed out for a while, after football games, a small group of us would head to the Taco Bell to get dinner. I didn't think he'd ask me to homecoming (which was October 24) so I decided to ask an old friend who went to a private high school. He's a great guy and thought we'd have a good time. My parents were certainly happy I went with him (they didn't really know about PreppyBF yet.) Then a week before homecoming, PreppyBF says to me, "I really wish I didn't wait to ask you to homecoming." But it was too late, I couldn't un-invite my old elementary school friend. So we decided PreppyBF would come in our homecoming group and see what happened. Luckily, my date found an old fling/crush/whatever and left me for her. I was relieved of my duties and went to PreppyBF. We danced and had a great time. I think he'd agree that we fell in love that night.

Two days later, we went bowling with some friends. It was a good time, he put his arm around me (which for some reason was BIG at the time.. haha oh times have changed) and we took a picture together that I still have to this day. The next day, we went to the food court at the mall for lunch and got McDonald's (it was cheapest.) We would always get 2 apple pies on the dollar menu and split them. As we were wrapping up our gourmet meal, PreppyBF said, "The last couple of weeks have been great but...." I started freaking out! I thought he was going to say it wasn't going to work out, that he didn't want to be tied down when he went to college yadda yadda. (He paused for a while so it gave me time to panic.) Then he continued, "Will you go out with me?" Shocked that it wasn't what I was thinking he would say, I said sure! Sounds quite juvenile, but hey we were!

So they say... the rest is history. We've pulled through a lot of ups and downs, but our love has only gotten stronger from it! It's really fun to look back and see how much we've grown up together over the years. He's my rock and my best friend. I'm a lucky girl to say the least! We have a great future ahead of us, I'm really excited!
